Attracting God's favour through fasting
Fasting Defined:
Fasting is a spiritual discipline that is taught in the Bible. Jesus expected his followers to fast, and he said that God rewards fasting. Fasting, according to the Bible, means voluntarily reducing or eliminating your intake of food for a specific for a specific time and purpose.
Matthew 4:2
And he went without food for forty days and forty nights, and later he was hungry
Daniel 10:3
I ate no pleasant or desirable food, nor did any meat or wine come into my mouth and I did not anoint myself at all for the full three weeks
Why fast:
1. Fasting helps us draw near to God
2. Surrender ourselves to God
3. Hear God's direction
4. Steel ourselves with determination to do God's will
5. It helps grow our faith
6. It is a way to intensify our ability to pray
7. It is a tangible way to deny ourselves- to declare before God that we know it's all about Him, not about us.
Fasting God's way:
1. Ezra 8:23
Anoint your head, wash your face, that your fasting may not be seen by others but by your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
2. Refrain from eating during the fast and only consume water or juice.
3. Pray and read scripture during your fast.
4. Ask God for forgiveness and strength.
